TEMPO.CO, Sleman - The Culture and Tourism Service of Sleman District, Yogyakarta, will hold a 24-hour Njathil performance on May 21-22, 2016 at the outdoor of Sindu Kusuma Edupark, Sindudi, Mlati.
“The performance is in order to enliven the 100th Anniversary of Sleman District,” Head of Culture and Tourism Service Sleman District Ayu Laksmidewi said Tuesday.
The performance will by done by the women of jathilan group starting from 12 p.m. Saturday (May 21) till 7 p.m. Sunday (May 22).
“Jathilan or 24-hour kuda lumping performance is intended as an exhibition, expression, and appreciation towards jathilan art,” said Ayu.
The event is to give an opportunity for jathilan groups to perform in front of vast audiences.
“They are expected to be well-prepared in order to perform and be witnessed by the public,” she said.
Ayu say 17 jathilan groups will perform alternately with each group comprising about 35 artists.
“So there will be at least 600 jathilan artists who will be performing their skills in front of society,” she said.
This is an effort to regenerate artists with the requirements of participating artists to be under 35 years of age.
