Bandar Lampung Promotes Classical Guitar to Attract Tourists

TEMPO.CO, Bandar Lampung - Bandar Lampung City government has made Lampung classical guitar as a means to attract tourists to visit the city, which is the provincial capital of Lampung province.
"We hope that Lampung classical music through Lampung classical guitar can become of one the attractions that can lure tourists to visit Lampung, especially Bandar Lampung,” said Head of Lampung Culture and Tourism Agency Yus Amri in Bandar Lampung on Sunday.
Yus also said that in order to find new seeds of Lampung classical guitar players, the city government has worked with Lampung regional police to hold an event called ‘Minum Kopi Gratis’ (drinking coffee for free) and a Classical Guitar Contest.
According to Yus, Lampung classical guitar players are now very rare and even many of them are already old.
"Therefore, we have worked with the regional police hold this event to find new seeds and to preserve Lampung classical guitar among the youth,” he said, adding that the constest is also expected to preserve Lampung’s cultures and made them known among the people.
As many as 140 participants took part in the contest that was held from Friday (15/4) until Sunday (17/4).
In the meantime, Bandar Lampung Mayor Herman HN said that the idea to hold the contest was first raised by Chief of Lampung Regional Police Brigadier General Ike Edwin.
"The identity of Lampung as the Land of Coffee and Pepper must be preserved. Besides this Classical Guitar Contest, in the future we will hold the ‘Drinking Coffee for Free’ event at Tugu Adipura and Plaza Pos. We should be ashamed that as the second’ biggest coffee producer in the country, Lampung has no its distinctive coffee shops," Herman said.
