TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Head of Communication Center for the Transportation Ministry Julius Adravida Barata confirmed the rumor that Kalstar ATR 72-500 aircraft experienced an engine failure at Sjamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
“[It’s] true, we also received similar information from the official,” Barata told Tempo Friday, April 15, 2016. Barata said the total passengers on board were 36 people and all survived.
Kalstar ATR 72-500 aircraft took off at 12 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, then one of its engines caught fire. The plane which was previously heading to Kota Baru then turned back to the Sjamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin.
The plane was able to return to the airport safe and soundly although only running with one engine. According to Barata, the plane has now been towed and parked inside a hangar.
