TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that the Jakarta administration had destroyed 180 TransJakarta buses that are no longer roadworthy.
"Many residents do not know that we have destroyed 180 TransJakarta buses because they are not roadworthy,” Basuki said at the city hall on Friday (1/4).
Nevertheless, Basuki ensured that TransJakarta services in all corridors would not be disrupted.
"We do not have yet the replacement of those buses because we are still ordering the new buses. However, we can ensure that TransJakarta servies will not be disrupted," Basuki added.
He went on to say that the government decided to destroy the buses considering the poor condition of the buses that can put the safety of the passengers at risk if those buses are used.
"We destroyed the buses as part of our efforts to improve TransJakarta services. That way,we hope we can people to use public transports,” Basuki added.
Basuki also told city-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (TransJakarta) to rejuvenate TransJakarta stops in all corridors.
"I want all TransJakarta stops are kept clean. They windows must be regularly cleaned. I don’t want the stops in dirty condition. If they are clean, passengers will feel comfortable,” Basuki added.
