Workers Union Highlights Importance of Construction Workers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Stanis Tefa, chairman of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) All Indonesian Workers Union (SPSI), said that foreign workers in the construction and trade sector have freat opportunities to enter Indonesia through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
"The two professions are predicted to be more dominant along with other professions, such as tour guides, in regions with appealing natural resources for investors," said Tefa on Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
Tefa's statement was made in response to the question on what professions that have the highest possibilities to enter Indonesia during the AEC era, and in relation to local workers' to compete with foreign workers.
Tefa added that there has to be a continuous supply of workers, especially those in charge of infrastructures, such as roads and bridges.
"We've always heard about food, energy, socio-cultural security. Now, it's time to put more focus on the resilience of construction [workers] inf facing the AEC and WTO 2020," Tefa said.
