TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-In celebration of World AIDS Day 2015, the government will focus on promoting AIDS prevention in means of transportation.
“Leading Sector AIDS 2015 is the Health Ministry,” said Sigit Priohutomo, director of direct contagious disease at the Health Ministry, on Monday.
In cooperation with the Transportation Ministry, HIV transmission promotion is carried out by the government in land, sea and air public transportation because transportation sector is one of the sectors prone to AIDS. “It involves human interaction from one place to another,” said Sigit.
Sigit said human mobility enables HIV transmission through sexual intercourse. Movement of humans, especially men, between villages, cities, or countries is a common occurrence.
According to Sigit, another main reason is because transportation sector has three elements, they are man, mobile and money. If men want to go to a place, they usually bring more money without realizing that they are contracting HIV/AIDS. Sigit hoped with this HIV/AIDS prevention promotion in public transportation, people will be more careful.
In World AIDS Day that falls today, on December 1, the Health Ministry reported that HIV/AIDS cases in 2015 decreased from last year. HIV and AIDS cases in 2015 are 24,791 and 3,127, while HIV and AIDS cases in 2014 were 32,711 and 5,494.
