TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Drs Suyadi, the creator of the famous Indonesian TV series, a puppet show for children, called `Si Unyil`, has died on Friday, October 30 at Pelni Petamburan hospital. Suyadi, who was more popularly known as ‘Pak Raden’ for his role in the TV series, was at his 82.
The heart-breaking news was delivered by Pak Raden’s manager and assistant, Prasodjo Chusnato, through a short message service.
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un, has died our beloved grandfather, a legend in Indonesia’s story-telling world, and a sketch maestro Drs Suyadi (Pak Raden),” Prasodjo wrote in his message received by Tempo on Friday night.
Drs Suyadi was born in Puger, Jember, East Java on November 28, 1932. He was known as the creator of hand-puppet character ‘Si Unyil’ which was booming as TV series in 1980s. Pak Raden often seen on TV screen in his typical appearance by wearing Javanese traditional attire and thick mustache.
