TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Parliament members planned to file a report against House of Representatives speaker Setya Novanto and deputy speaker Fadli Zon to the honor council, the lawmakers told journalists on Saturday, September 5.
Members of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and the National Awakening Party (PKB) factions at the House of Representatives will submit their report on Monday, September 7, 2015.
The plan was based on their objection on Setya Novanto and Fadli Zon’s participation in the pledge of allegiance made by US presidential candidate Donal Trump in New York last Thursday.
“We, as house members, express our protest and will report them to the House honor council,” Budiman Sudjatmiko told journalists on Saturday.
In addition to Budiman, other legislators protesting Setya and Fadli from the PDIP faction were Adian Napitupulu, Charles Honoris and Diah Pitaloka, as well as Maman Imanulhaq from the PKB faction.
According to Budiman, a House speaker should not attend a political event overseas since the House of Representatives is a symbol of Indonesia’s sovereignty.
Charles Honoris hopes that the House honor council would seriously attend to the case since Setya and Fadli used state budget and facilities to visit the United States.
“[Setya and Fadli] came as the House speaker and met Donald Trump wearing the House pin. It means they answered Trump’s question as House speakers,” Charles, House member commission I that oversees foreign affairs, said.
Charles urged the House honor council to impose sanctions against Setya and Fadli. Under article 232 of the House’s Code of Conduct, House members must maintain thier dignity, honor, image and credibility during when carrying out their duties.
