TEMPO.CO, Malang - The Malang First Class Immigration Office has deported a total of 34 foreign nationals, dominated by Chinese and Taiwanese, back to their countries from January to August this year.
Baskoro Dwi Prabowo, the head of supervisory and enforcement division at the Malang Immigration Office said that the deportation was conducted under Article 78 of Law Number 6/2011 on Immigration.
The majority of the foreign nationals were deported for either violating their visas or fulfilling their obligations to pay a fine as a result of expired stay permit. Baskoro added that there were 76 other foreigners with expired stay permit, but they did not fail to pay the fine. However, the Immigration Office continued to intensively watch their activities.
“We believe that there are more foreign nationals who misuse their stay permit in Malang. We have coordinated with the Manpower Agency, the Population Agency and the Malang police to minimize such a violation,” Baskoro said on Saturday, August 22, 2015.
Earlier on Friday, August 21, 2015, the Malang Immigration Office detained four Chinese citizens and two Taiwanese nationals. The foreign nationals arrived at the Juanda International Airport, Surabaya, on July 28 and July 29, 2015 and directly checked in to a hotel.
During an investigation, it was found that they were staying and working in Malang using tourist visas. Baskoro said that the six foreign nationals were detained at the Immigration Office’s Detention Center. They were allegedly employed as expert staff at CV Eka Putra.
