TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The government has planned to finish a draft government regulation (RPP), which would be the follow up on Law No. 7/2014 on trade, and the e-commerce road map that is currently being crafted by the Communication and Information Ministry, Bank Indonesia and the Investment Coodinating Board (BKPM).
Tjahya Widayanti, the head of trade policy research and development, revealed that the draft bill would cover means to protect both e-commerce players and consumers.
“The draft bill is aimed at protecting consumers and business owners,” Tjahya said on the sidelines of a coordination meeting with the Indonesian Telematics Community (Mastel) in Jakarta.
The draft bill is expected to support the government’s program, such as the 2014-2019 Indonesia Broadband Plan (RPI). According to Tjahya, e-commerce players will be able to utilize the broadband network across the country.
In addition, the road map for the e-commerce industry in Indonesia is expected to develop digital-based transactions. Daniel Tumiwa, the chairman of the Indonesia E-Commerce Association (idEA), said that the roadmap must be able to provide an opportunity for e-commerce startups to develop.
Daniel added that Indonesian e-commerce industry still needed assistance from foreign investors. However, the foreign proportion must be governed to be appealing as well as profitable to Indonesia.
