TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan has officially filed pretrial lawsuit against his arrest by the Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Agency (Breskrim) to the South Jakarta District Court.
Asfinawati, Novel's legal counselor, said that she had asked the pretrial judge council to assert that Novel's arrest was illegitimate. Asfinawati also asked the National Police Chief (Kapolri) to audit Bareskrim in investigating Novel's case.
"We need to question what is behind all this," said Asfinawati. "Whom are the investigators taking order from? Police Chief, Police Deputy Chief, Bareskrim Chief or who?"
Bareskrim detained Novel last Friday and accused him of being involved in the torturing and shooting of Swallow bird's nest theft suspect in 2004, when Novel was the chief of Bengkulu Police's Criminal Investigation Unit.
The police had arrest Novel for questioning and case reconstruction in Bengkulu, but President Joko Widodo then asked the police to release Novel.
Previously, Kapolri Gen. Badrodin Haiti said Novel's case will continue in court.
