TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has recently launched his Internet.org program in Indonesia. Zuckerberg announced the launching via his Facebook account.
“We just launched Internet.org in Indonesia! It's one more step towards connecting the whole world,” Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
The Internet.org is a non-profit organization initiated by Zuckerberg and a number or institutions and corporations to build global internet network. Two third of the world’s population, especially those living in poor and developing countries, are estimated to have not yet connected to the internet.
The Internet.org now features descriptions in Indonesian languages. It is written that connecting people in the whole world is an accomplishable mission.
Samsung, Qualcomm, Nokia, Opera Software, Mediatek and Ericsson are major companies that are involved in the initiative.
Facebook is now trying out advanced drones that will function to transmit free-of-charge Wi-Fi in poor and developing countries. Aquila, the drone, is said to be flying non-stop using the solar power and batteries.
