TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Residents of Lebak Regency, Banten Province, are encouraged to reforest conservation lands to prevent landslide from happening in the area, Antara reported.
“We believe that the reforestation in the conservancy area could prevent landslide during the high rain fall rate,” said Lebak Head of Forestry and Plantation Agency.
Kosim Ansori to Antara in Lebak, Thursday.
Lebak has several conservation areas such as Halimun Salak National Park (TNGHS), Baduy indigenous forest, kaolotan indigenous conservation land, and some conservation areas belonging to the State-Owned Forestry Enterprise (Perhutani).
“All the conservation lands are reforested each year to prevent natural disaster,” Kosim said.
Local residents claimed to support the reforestation since the program boosts people’s income from high woods production.
“For five years, we have produced one hectare of albasia woods worth around Rp250 million,” said Aman, a resident of Cijaku, Lebak Regency.
