Bengawan Solo River's Tributaries Potential to Cause Flash Flood

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - About a dozen of Bengawan Solo River's tributaries located in Bojonegoro and Tuban Regency, East Java is potential to trigger flash flood on Bengawan Solo river. It is because the forests on highlands where the river branches sourced are mostly damaged.
Head of Bojonegoro Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Andik Sujarwo said that almost all of small, medium and big rivers flowing into Bengawan Solo, therefore, there is a big chance for flash flood to happen when rain drenches the high lands.
“It happened several times,” said Andik to Tempo on Friday.
Bojonegoro BPDB has recorded seven flash with mud flood, and more than six floods during the 2014.
Deforestation also expose flood threat to Tuban Regency. Regions that usually flooded include some villages in Soko district due to Kening Reiver overflow. Montong, Grabagan, and part of Merakuraka and Tuban districts are also exposed to this threat.
