TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama said on Monday, November 24, 2014, that he had listed five candidates to be selected as the Jakarta Deputy Governor. However, he refused to mention the name that he would pick to fill the post.
Ahok also refused to comment on the background of the candidates, or whether he will appoint Sarwo Handayani, a member of the Jakarta Development Acceleration Team.
Ahok revealed that he had yet proposed any candidates because he was still waiting for the government regulation on the procedures of proposing names for deputy governor candidates.
“Let’s wait for the government regulation. Probably [the government regulation] will be signed on Friday,” Ahok said.
The government regulation states that a governor has the authority to pick deputy governor. Ahok has 15 days to propose the names of the candidates while waiting for the regulation to be signed.
