TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Land Transportation Organization (Organda) is set to increase public transportation tariffs by 30 percent on Thursday, November 20, 2014, following the recent fuel price increase. The policy is taken to cover operational budget, according to Secretary General of Organda, Andriansyah.
Andriansyah said that the 30 percent increase is in accordance to to the Ministerial Regulation No. 89/2002 on Public Transportation Tariff Calculation Mechanism. The new price will apply nationwide on Thursday.
However, he claimed that the new tariff has already been applied in several areas, including in Jakarta and Bogor. "The new tariff has also been applied in Sumatra," said Andriansyah.
Andri said that the policy is due to the lack of attention from the government, particularly on public transportation management. “"There is no incentive for public transportation. Government merely applies fuel price increase, without further consideration," he said.
