TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Marine and Fisheries Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti, said that she met with the Ambassador of United States for Indonesia Robert Blake. Susi and Blake talked about the issue of marine ecosystem sustainability. Susi was looking to gain input from Robert regarding the strategies for proper marine conservation.
"We discussed about how the fishery industries can do their business without damaging marine life," said Susi on Thursday, November 6, 2014.
She continued that the sustainability of marine ecosystem should be the basis of marine exploration conducted by business owners. Susi wanted to show the world that Indonesia also understands the importance of good marine governance. "As a maritime country, we should know better about marine preservation, but what happened is the opposite," she said.
Susi convinced other countries through their ambassadors that countries that have interests over Indonesian waters are required to understand the issue. She said that the fisheries business in Indonesia must be in compliance with the World Marine Conference regulation, which prioritizes marine governance.
Ambassador Blake responded well towards the Minister's views on marine governance. The United States is ready to assist Indonesia in conserving the marine ecosystem.
