TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rumata’ cultural house is ready again to provide space for interaction between film makers and film enthusiasts in the ‘Makassar Southeast Asian Screen Academy' (Makassar SEAscreen Academy). The film making workshop will kick start on October 22 until October 26.
Riri Riza, the SEAscreen Academy initiator, said that the upcoming workshop will be focusing on development of film culture, film distribution, and technical training focusing on seluloide and digital photography. Also, it will discuss about how to properly work in the laboratory of story and film production development.
The program will be attended by 12 participants from East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Luwu, Bulukumba, and Maros. They will have the chance to interact with South Asean film makers such as Teng Mangansaka from Philippines, Yuni Hadi and Sanif Olek from Singapore, also Edwin and Gunnar Nimpuno from Indonesia.
According to Riri, the participants have to meet some criteria such as have the experience of being involved with film, production, own a film work, and having relationship with film community.
“Because we want them to develop their communities,” Riri said.
In addition to interacting with the film makers, Riri further said, the participants will also engaged in real works that involves chemicals and drums. But the Director of Rumata’s Art Space Makassar promised that it will be a different laboratory experience.
The event will be enlivened with discussions, workshop, and screening of ‘Ilo-ilo’ the award winning film from Singapore.
Riri believes that the eastern part of Indonesia has all the potential for the development of film industry. The regions have richness of cultural expression, high economy and consumption growth, and beautiful places for filming location. He also believes that film is an effective media to transfer messages.
