TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Italy have defeated Azerbaijan 2-1 in the European Cup qualifier at Stadio Barbera, Palermo, earlier today. The winning polished their performance in the campaign after previously won over Nowrway 2-0. However, new coach Antonio Conte still spotted weakness in his squad.
Giorgio Chiellini scored all three goals inlcluding one own goal that gave Azerbaijan one point.
"Azerbaijan didn't have a shot other than the goal and scored out of nowhere with that bundle over the line," Conte said as quoted by Football-Italia.
"We reacted well, proving this team has what it takes. We need to be more clinical, more determined and we wasted too much tonight."
Italy dominated the match with 61.5 percent ball possession and 22 shots. Only two shots that finally broke into the Azerbaijan's net.
In the match, Conte missed Marco Verratti, Thiago Motta, Danielle De Rossi, and Daniel Osvaldo. The former Juventus coach put Simone Zaza and Ciro Immobile duet on the front line.
