TEMPO.CO, Gaza - A senior Hamas official announced on Tuesday that the organization still insists on establishing an Islamic state on all the lands of Palestine. The statement came in a ceremony to honor police officers killed in the last Israeli offensive on Gaza.
"We don't want to establish an Islamic emirate in Gaza; we want an Islamic state in all Palestine," said Mahmoud al-Zahar.
He also claimed that Hamas has defeated Israel during this war. "We will be able to go for a successful battle that we will win it at the end," he confidently said.
Hamas and Palestininan President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah have agreed in June to form a unity government for six months. However, the unity government was unable to work due to the Israeli offensive on Gaza. Last week, the two rivals met in Cairo to give full role to the unity government.
