TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Learning Japanese needs not to be serious and full of theories. In the Japan Week agenda, visitors are taught to learn in a fun way through a traditional game called Fukurawai.
"The game is easy and fun, you can learn directions, errand words and the language of anatomy in Japanese," said a Japanese instructor Tetriana in Jakarta Tuesday.
The game is played by a team consisting of two or more people. One person’s eyes should be closed, and the rest try to direct their friend’s hand (the one with the eyes closed).
He/she should be able to stick a facial anatomy such as the eyes, nose, eyebrows and mouth neatly arranged above the picture of a face that is still empty with only having an outline of the face.
Similar as "put a donkey’s tail" game, their other friends shout to point out directions to the person who has their eyes closed to form a face.
The results are sometimes funny and out of shape, sometimes it is not neat. This cuteness becomes the essence of the game.
Visitors seem enthusiastic to participate in the game. They often laugh and are expressive when participating in this learning game.
Fukurawai has been a Japanese tradition during the new year.
"In Japan, whoever laughs the most on the new year will be granted many happiness through the year, so this game appeared," Tetriana said.
All commands must be in Japanese. This is where the educating part occurs to learn the basic Japanese on directions and anatomy.
