TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Barcelona officially loaned Ibrahim Afellay to Olympiakos for the whole season, creating a speculation that the club will release the player for free since Afellay is in the final year of his contract with Barcelona.
“Ibrahim Afellay, who was excused in Barcelona training on Saturday, will play the forthcoming season at Olympiakos after an agreement was reached today for the loan of the Dutchman to the side of Piraeus,” the club stated as released by Fcbarcelona.com.
Since Afellay was brought from PSV in January 2011, he had been struggling to make it to Barcelonal’s starting eleven. In total, the 28-year-old player made only 35 appearances in an injury-hit spell.
Earlier, Afellay spent time on loan at Schalke 04 in 2012/2013 season and performed admirably at the beginning of the season. The Dutchman had another long injury and made only two appearances for La Blaugrana last season.
