TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will introduce 29 types of specialty coffee to the United States by participating at the 26th Specialty Coffee Association of America on April 24-27 in Seattle, Washington.

A data from the U.S. Trade Representative Attaché shows that Americans spend US$18 billion a year to buy specialty coffee.

"The number of coffee drinkers in the U.S. has reached 100 million each day. This shows that coffee is an important and potential commodity for the U.S. Market," Trade Attaché, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, wrote in her email yesterday.

In 2013, the U.S. had spent US$290 million, or 5.45 percent of its coffee import from around the world, to import coffee from Indonesia. U.S. market is currently dominated by Brazilian and Columbian coffee with 20.31 percent and 17.47 percent market shares respectively.
