TEMPO.CO, Detroit - Nissan Motor Co. recalls on 1,534 million vehicles worldwide and mostly in the United States. The recall is to fix the software device that will risk the deactivation of the driver's side airbag.
According to the documents held by the National Highway Traffic Safety Agency (NHTSA), the software device is believed to be mistaken with the assumption that the driver seat is empty which then deactivate the airbag when accidents occur.
Nisssan noticed two accidents have occurred without the inflation of airbag, stated in the NHTSA document.
Nissan spokesman explained that his company could not conclude the connection problem between the airbag with the software device.
NHTSA, as quoted in Reuters, said the recall is free and will start in mid April.
Vehicles being recalled are Altima, Sentra and SUV Pathfinder and Leaf 2013-2014.
Recalls are also done to Infiniti JX35 crossover year model 2013, Infiniti Q50 and QX60 crossover year model 2014, also Nissan NV 200 cargo van year model 2013.
As much as 989.701 vehicle units that were recalled are sold in the US, around 60,000 in Canada and the rest are in other states, wrote NHTSA and Nissan.
