TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has yet to resigned from his post, but some organizations had expressed their objections if Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama—or famously known as Ahok—is to be promoted as the next governor. The Prosperous Justice Party's (PKS) wing organizations; consisted of the Justice Youth Movement (Gema Keadilan), the Justice Guard, and the PKS Young Stronghold; believed that Jakarta should not be led Ahok.
The reason is that the organizations did not favor Ahok's performance and communication style for the last 1.5 years. Chairman of Gema Keadilan, Ronald Darmansyah, said that their attitude toward Ahok was determined following to a survey carried out on March 20-24, 2014.
"As many as 93 respondents said that they did not favor Ahok's leadership," Ronald said at Galeri Cafe, Taman Ismail Marzuki, on March 25, 2014.
Based on their surveys, 24 percent of the respondents considered Ahok as an arrogant person. The survey, he said, was carried out by interviewing 300 respondents and collecting 1,289 online questionnaires.
In addition, Ahok was also considered as an unsympathetic and unethical person. "He usually blames his subordinates and does not listen to other people's opinion," he said.
Ronald also said that the respondents were concerned that if Ahok was to be the governor, there would be exclusive and sectarian programs, disharmony among Jakarta administration officials, and moral degradation. "They were concerned about gambling and prostitution, and religious activities would be ruled out," he said.
In addition, Ahok was feared to diminish Betawi culture and to make Jakarta more hedonic. Ronald said that he will deliver these results to PKS central executive board and gather other mass organizations with similar view.
Ahok said that he would not be surprised if some people rejected him to be the governor. But the PKS must be able to account the survey results. "If their votes are less than 10 percent in the upcoming legislative election, they have to rectify their statement," Ahok said on Tuesday.
