TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Education and Culture has formed a committee to translate 300 to 350 literature books to German. The books will become Indonesia's main display in the 2015 Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) in Germany.
"It needs long translation. I hope it can be finished in one or two months," Deputy Minister of Education and Culture Wiendu Nuryanti said on Wednesday, February 4, 2014.
Frankfurt Book Fair committee chose Indonesia as the event's honorable guest. Indonesia will have a special booth of 1,500 square meters, while regular participants will get a 200-square-meter booth.
Indonesia also has the opportunity to appear in discussion between authors, reading session, food festival, and music and dance performances, and film for five consecutive days.
Wiendu informed that the Education and Culture Ministry's Secretary General Ainun Na'im has signed a memorandum of understanding with Head of the FBF Committee Jurgen Boos. Based on the MoU, the Ministry will establish five working committees that consist of the Book and Translation Committee, Exhibition and Show Committee, Cooperation Committee, Even and Protocol Committee, and Promotion and Publication Committee.
FBF started to invite honorable guests since 1976. Inviting honorable guest is the FBF committee's way to promote a country's publishing industry. Until 2014, there FBF Committee had invited 25 countries as honorable guests.
