Thailand Sends Rp6bn Help to Tsunami Victims in Palu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Thailand through its embassy in Jakarta provided humanitarian assistance worth 15 million baths (Rp6 billion) to victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Donggala, and Sigi, Central Sulawesi province.

The Thai Embassy in Jakarta said the form of the aid cannot be announced yet as the embassy is still waiting for approval from the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Thailand's assistance is a form of support for victims. The government and their people are concerned over the large number of lives lost and infrastructure destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami on Friday, September 28.

President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo had said that Indonesia welcomes other countries that wish to provide assistance to victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

Jokowi said that the survivors are in need of food as all shops are closed. The government, Widodo said, had sent food on Monday, October 1, from Jakarta, Balikpapan, and Makassar.

The Military reported that as of October 1st the number of lives taken by last week's earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi, reached 925. The disaster also damaged 65,733 houses, rendering 59,450 people homeless.
