TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chinese New Year is a highly anticipated event in Singapore, celebrated with great fervor and grandeur. The Majestic Palace or Istana will be open to the public on February 12, 2024.
As per the report published in the Strait Times, the open house will start from 08:30 to 18:00 local time, including the Istana Heritage Gallery, which is located in Istana Park. Access to the palace grounds will be through the main gate on Orchard Road, one of the most iconic thoroughfares in Singapore.
Performances and activities at the Singapore Palace
Visitors can look forward to an exciting lineup of performances, activities, and tours of the Palace's main buildings and grounds. Other activities include Chinese calligraphy and candle making.
There will also be multicultural music and dance performances by Lasalle College of the Arts, the University of the Arts Singapore, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Sheng Hong Arts Institute, Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre, Taman Jurong Community Club Juboon Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe, Tampines Arts Troupe, TheDanceTribeSG and Yuan Ching Secondary School.
Visitors can also opt for a guided tour to explore selected function rooms and take a closer look at a selection of state gifts presented to Singapore’s leaders. Those interested in the flora and fauna of the Palace can take a guided tour by the National Parks Board volunteers.
The open house will feature food trucks and stalls along with merchandise booths offering limited-edition Istana and President's Challenge souvenirs. Social service agencies Touch Community Services and Minds will also set up two merchandise stalls.
Singapore Palace Entrance Fee
Admission to the Palace is free for Singaporeans and permanent residents, while non-Singaporeans are required to pay an entrance fee of 20 Singapore dollars per adult and 10 Singapore dollars per child aged between four and 12.
The guided tours are chargeable, with the cost varying depending on the tourist's age, ranging up to 20 Singapore dollars for non-Singaporeans and permanent residents and 4 Singapore dollars for Singaporeans. It is important to note that all payments must be cashless.
Supported by the President's Challenge, the Singapore Palace will donate all revenues generated from entrance fees, tours, and merchandise booths to charitable organizations.
