TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, has asked Indonesian political parties not to make use of the current situation for their personal interests following the fuel, electricity and phone price hikes. The coordinating minister made this statement to reporters at Iskandar Muda airport in Banda Aceh on Wednesday (15/01) before his departure to Jakarta. According to Yudhoyono, there are indications that some political parties are making use of the current situation by mobilizing the masses. Therefore, he demanded those parties not to politicize current problems for the interests of their political parties. This means their actions are not for the sake of the people but in the interests of their political parties, stated Yudhoyono. He requested all people to unite rather than blame each other in regards to the price hikes. What people are waiting now is a wise, fair and proper solution to support the society in overcoming the price hikes problem, said Yudhoyono. Regarding the House of Representatives (DPR) consultation meeting with the government that is scheduled to take place tonight at 7pm to discuss the price hikes and students protests against these, Yudhoyono said he hoped this meeting would not be used to blame each other. We hope tonights meeting will result the best solution, that is free from all interests, particularly political interests, he said.(Yuswardi A. Suud-Tempo News Room)
