TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - Bali will set a governor`s regulation that requires the consumption of local products in the hotels and modern retails.

The Bali Food Security Agency Head, I Wayan Mardiana, said that the governor’s regulation (Pergub) regarding the consumption of local agricultural products in the hotels and modern retail in Bali is currently under the ongoing discussion.

It is possible that the governor’s regulation will be completed in January 2019 and will take effect immediately. The regulation will require modern retails to sell agricultural, fishery and other products of local industries for 60% of the total products sold.

For hotels, it is mandatory to use at least 30% of Bali’s agricultural, fishery and industrial products from the total products consumed.

This Pergub is believed to be able to provide benefits to farmers by 20% to 30% of production costs. The local products include vegetables, fruits, rice, chicken, pork, and beef.

“Currently, there are several requirements to apply the regulation, namely product quality, quantity, and continuity of products,” he said as stated by Bisnis.com, Tuesday, December 11.

According to Wayan, the hotels and modern retail will also get the benefit, because meat, vegetables, and fruit sold by local farmers in Bali are still relatively large. Unlike the imported meat, which is frozen meat.

Wayan said that currently there are at least 90 commodities of vegetables, fruits, and rice in which the quality has been certified. The product certification ensures that the commodities are free of chemicals and other dangerous objects.

In addition, the beef and pork in Bali also have certification so that they have started to be consumed and sold in hotels and modern retails.
