TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) in North Sumatra, asked the government through the Indonesian Consulate General to Return to Penang to question traditional fishermen regarding the borders of Indonesia-Malaysia waters.
"The socialization needs to be done to prevent Indonesian fishermen from North Sumatra (North Sumatra) from entering the waters of neighboring Malaysia," said Deputy Chairman of the North Sumatra Fisheries Association (HNSI) of North Sumatra, Medan, Thursday.
Because so far, according to him, many fishermen from Langkat District, Deli Serdang and Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra, were detained by Malaysian maritime police for entering waters in the country without permission.
"The case was due to ignorance of fishermen regarding the borders of the two countries," Nazli said.
He said, the government must provide the best solution to Indonesian fishermen, so they would no longer commit violations and be arrested by Malaysian police.
