TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Not long ago, Facebook reportedly experienced another breach that affected 50 million Facebook data accounts that potentially were misused as suggested by Kaspersky Lab Southeast Asia General Manager Yeo Siang Tiong in a written statement on Saturday, October 20.

According to the social media giant, the Facebook account tokens that were affected can potentially open a person’s Facebook account without the user’s consent. However, this breach does not mean that a user’s password and a two-way authentication mechanism is at risk.

However, Tiong said that stealing a user’s token is a way to get past the aforementioned security mechanism. “Personal information such as names, birth date, or a bank’s verification phase, meanwhile an email account can be used even further for phishing,” he said.

When a Facebook account token is reset, Tiong said, the owner will not be able to access the account which makes you have to log in once again which can potentially be used by perpetrators to obtain a person’s password.

However, Facebook promised to update its security after knowing how many accounts were potentially misused by breach.
