TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than 352,000 Indonesian tourists were recorded visiting Japan in 2017,. The number is 30 percent higher compared to the previous year. The increase was caused by several factors.
One of the factors is the visa-free policy for Indonesian citizens who own e-passports. While antoher decisive factor is that Indonesian tourists often search for seasonal bargains and discounts on the normally expensive business-class flight to Japan.
"Travel hacking by utilizing rewards or loyalty points have been a trend in the United States, Australia, and Europe. This scheme is equally profitable for travelers, airlines, and credit card companies," said Marianne Rumantir, CEO and founder of Member.id on Thursday, October 11, in South Jakarta.
Loyalty programs are often offered by a number of brands for its returning customers, some come in the form of loyalty points from purchasing flight tickets, booking hotel rooms, up to routinely shopping with credit cards.
"[The money] we spend can be converted into points, for there are people who seldom travel by plane but often eats out at restaurants. It's essential to know which credit card that offers points from food spending that can be exchanged for flight tickets," said Marianne.
The loyalty program currently increasing in trend among airline industry is the mileage program offered by prominent airliners such as Garuda Indonesia, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Korean Airline, and Malaysia Airlines.
