Jokowi Rides Horse Cart in Malioboro, Yogyakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) arrived in the Yogyakarta Special Region since Thursday, September 27, to conduct a working visit.


The president, the first lady Iriana Jokowi, and their entourage rode horse carts along the famous Malioboro street. His presence attracted locals and tourists to gather and they asked to shake Jokowi's hands.


“People are shouting to call his (President Jokowi) name, so they can shake his hands or take pictures together,” said Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media at Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin, Thursday, September 27.


Jokowi and Iriana asked to stop the horse cart for a few time to let the people taking pictures with them. The entourage ended their trip at 9:14 p.m.


Today, September 28, Jokowi is scheduled to open a National Level Forest Management Unit Festival in Yogyakarta.


The event is held to show the government’s commitment to the forest management in Indonesia based on community empowerment. It will also feature superior products based on forest management and community empowerment.
