TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facing a job interview is often considered to be an intimidating experience that can be likened to that of a one man theatrical show watched and judged by an unforgiving audience.

According to job vacancies site Jobstreet, a successful job interview is not only about how well you answer questions from your potential employer but also from your articulation and body language throughout the interview.

The following are five things you need to avoid doing in your next job interview:

1. Weak handshake

Carrying out a perfect handshake can be difficult when you’re jittery or nervous, but note that a weak handshake can send the wrong message to your potential employer and will certainly not leave a good impression once the interview is done.

2. Cross your arms

Placing your arms crossed in front of your chest is generally a sign that a person is in a defensive mode and might send a negative impression. Also remember to not hug any objects such as your suitcase or bag in between your crossed arms and chest since it can be conceived as being insecure.

3. Zero eye contact

As simple as an eye contact will show elements of confidence and interest towards your conversation, however, avoid overdoing it especially if it ends up making the interviewer uncomfortable. Maintain eye contact in naturally an in a healthy duration.

4. Nodding too much

Nodding can be a visualization of your eagerness to listen, interest, or sense of acknowledgment. However conducting it too many times will also show that you are not paying your utmost attention for the person that you are talking to.

5. Nervous

Here lies the crux of every bad job interview. Stop continuously touching your face or hair, or even overly and continuously correcting your shirt or pants since repetitive small activities might make you seem impatient, nervous, or unready for the interview.
