TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democrat Party claims that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono`s (SBY) recent walk out from the peaceful campaign declaration event was aimed to politically educate the General Elections Commission (KPU) that allegedly allowed a violation to happen.

“The world is currently witnessing how far Indonesia’s democracy has advanced. They let a violation slips in front of their eyes,” said Democrat Party politician Ferdinand Hutahaean on Tuesday, September 25.

According to Ferdinand, SBY felt let down by a number of people that violated KPU’s campaign regulation and also questioned KPU’s stance that seemed to have let the group from the Jokowi – Ma’aruf camp to arrive at the declaration wearing political campaign attributes.

Furthermore, Ferdinand said that the Democrat Party will not report the Jokowi-Ma’aruf camp to the KPU nor will they report them to the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu). He argues that society can judge the incident that he deemed has stained the country’s democratic event.

Reports suggested that SBY felt uncomfortable by the negative attitude and chants by pro-Jokowi supporters as he walked past the group during the peaceful campaign declaration at Monas, Jakarta, on Sunday, September 23.
