Jokowi Offers Condolences over Death of Vietnam President

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo extends his condolences over the death of Vietnam`s President Tran Dai Quang on Friday, September 21, at 10:05 local times.


“I am saddened to hear this news as I had just met him on September 11. I’m impressed for his dedication for his country and the people of Vietnam,” Jokowi said on his Instagram account, early Saturday, September 22.

Jokowi and Tran Dai Quang had recently met during a state visit in Hanoi. Jokowi was warmly greeted by President Tran Dai Quang. Both discussed the partnership enhancement between Indonesia and Vietnam.


President Jokowi delivered his pray for the death of Tran Dai Quang. “My prayer for the family, colleagues, and people of Vietnam,” he added.


As stated by Vietnam’s official news agency, President Tran Dai Quang dies at age of 61 due to serious illness. News reported he was ill for months and had undergone medical treatments.


Tran Dai Quang was inaugurated as the eighth President of Vietnam in 2016. He had been previously the minister of public security.
