TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Asia Pacific`s Go Green in the City (GGITC) 2018 competition saw University of Indonesia (UI) students, joined in the RISE team, successfully progress to the grand finale that will be held in Atlanta, United States on November.

RISE team’s winning concept presented in the global competition focusing on energy management and automation is entitled the Smart Memory Alloy for Reliable Trackers (SMART), which successfully defeated teams from 15 countries. RISE team consists of Clarissa Merry and Rivaldo Gurky.

“The global competition such as the Go Green in the City is the stage for young generations to channel their ideas, actualize themselves, and expand their networks in preparation for employment,” said Country President Schneider Electric Indonesia Xavier Denoly in a written statement Tempo received on Monday, September 10.

The SMART project’s main idea is to answer the question regarding alternative energy sources. It also evenly spreads access to electricity in rural areas by maximizing solar power absorption. The concept the team offers is claimed to improve electricity by 18 percent compared to conventional solar panels.

Denoly later explained that the SMART project has generated support from the Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and is expected to be funded by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.

Furthermore, RISE team’s SMART project will be able to produce an estimated energy up to 31.6 MWh each day, which is equivalent to lighting 2,300 households with an average daily use of 13.6 kWh.
