TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers Association (Gapmmi) Adhi S. Lukman pressed the government to provide an explanation following the discovery of Streptococcus Sp. bacteria in a sample taken from an Ultra Milk UHT full cream 250 ml
package at Sinjai sub-district in South Sulawesi.

“There are many things that need to be clarified. One of it is why the agency conducted the inspection,” said Adhi when Tempo reached him on Sunday, August 26. The Streptococcus sp. Bacteria is a pathogenic microorganism that can potentially cause health problems.

Adhi argued that the agency’s circular letter has yet to explain how the sample was obtained, what state of condition the sample was at, the sample’s expiration date, and the test method used in the test, which he deemed “was all still unclear.”

Head of the National Dairy Board Teguh Boediyana also urged the government to immediately adopt wise steps upon handling the issue that involves the well-being of the national milk processing industry and 95,000 common cattle breeders.

Sinjai sub-district’s Livestock and Animal Health Agency issued a letter on August 23, signed by Aminuddin Zainuddin acting as the Head Agency that explained they had inspected a sample of a 250 ml UHT full cream Ultra Milk product from a minimarket at the region in South Sulawesi on June 22.
