TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has officially announced the name of its latest version operating system, Android 9 Pie, earlier this week. However, it will not work on all phones and not necessarily all features will be ready shortly after launch.

The only device that gets the Android 9 Pie updates on the first day of launch is Google Pixel, via wireless (over-the-air) updates.

The phones like Sony, Nokia, OnePlus, Oppo, Essential and Xiaomi are expected to get the OS Android 9 Pie updates in the coming months due to participating in the Google beta program for Android 9 Pie.

Slices, one of the new features of Android 9 that shows the information related to applications in search results, and Digital Wellbeing, a series of tools promoted by Google to help Android users keep an eye on the amount of time they spend on their phones, will be released in October 2018. However, the Android 9 users on Pixel devices can register in a separate beta for the Digital Wellbeing.

Android 9 Pie features a status bar at the top of the screen that is intentionally left blank in the middle for the notch. Navigation gesture, for the main button, back button, and the latest button, in the form of a small icon like the iPhone X that allows users to move around the device, are also available on this operating system.

In addition, the battery will last longer because of the Adaptive Battery feature that limits access to battery usage in applications that are rarely used. Furthermore, there are AI-based notification settings that are useful for rejecting certain notifications and can stop them from appearing in the first place.
