TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi confirmed that there is no trade war between Indonesia and the United States, she said after a bilateral meeting with the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.

“There is no trade war between Indonesia and the US,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at Gedung Pancasila, Jakarta, Saturday, August 4.

Minister Retno explained that the trade war that occurs between the United States and China was enough to affect globally the trade relations.

“The trade war between the US and China certainly affects the trade relations of other countries and it affects globally,” she said.

Minister Retno also mentioned the visit of the Indonesian Minister of Trade to Washington DC last July to meet with the US Secretary of Commerce.

“We get a report on the positive results of Indonesia’s trade minister’s visit to the US. We want to build strong and mutually beneficial relationships,” said Minister Retno.

Minister Retno also discussed the preparation of the 70th anniversary of Indonesia-US diplomatic relations in 2019.

“Next year, Indonesia and the US will celebrate the 70 years of diplomatic relations. The theme proposed by Indonesia is ‘Celebrate Our Diversity and Prosper Together as Strategic Partner’,” she said.

Indonesia and the United States have established a strategic partnership since 2015. “With this partnership, we are trying to develop a relationship that is mutually respectful and beneficial for both countries, regions and the world, Minister Retno said.
