TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, said that Indonesia will not compromise with illegal fishing activities conducted in its waters.

"Indonesia is very firm and will not compromise with illegal fishing crimes," Minister Susi said in Jakarta on Friday, August 3, 2018.

Minister Susi made her statement in relation to comments directed to the verdict rendered by the panel of judges of the Sabang Court, against a Russian citizen Matveev Aleksandr, the captain of the foreign flagged - STS-50 fishing boat. Aleksandr is also known as a fugitive of Interpol.

Matveev Aleksandr previously operates a fishing boat in Indonesia's fishing territory without proper documents.

Minister Susi considered the verdict as a progressive verdict that is useful to stop the activity of illegal fishing in Indonesia. Illegal fishing, whatever the form, Susi said, ignores the sovereignty of a country and Indonesia will definitely take firm actions against such activities.
