TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Cilacap issued a warning on the high tides that is predicted to form at Central Java’s and Yogyakarta’s southern seas that could last from Tuesday to Wednesday (July 24-July 25).
BMKG Cilacap Head of Technician Teguh Wardoyo said that the high tides is a result of the air pressures and storms from the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
“We will renew the early warning once we receive an update on the condition,” said Teguh in Central Java on Tuesday, July 24. BMKG warns that the high tides are potentially dangerous for any type of ship.
He further warned maritime service users to take extra caution and if needed, to cancel any activity related to sailing. Based on the agency’s satellite monitoring on July 23, a high pressure effect zone is forming in the Indian Ocean’s West of Australia and Pacific Ocean’s Eastern side of Australia.
The interaction between the two high pressure winds and tropical storm is causing the increase of surface wind from the East and Southeast area.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi corresponded to BMKG’s weather warning and deemed the weather to be too dangerous to conduct any sailing activities. The next weather prediction suggests that bad weather may continue up to July 25-July 26.
