TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Batavia Culinary Festival will be held again by South Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency on Tuesday, July 24. The festival, a part of Batavia Cultural Fair (Gebyar Budaya Betawi), will take place at Cultural Art Training Center (PPSB) in Tebet, South Jakarta, starting at 9 a.m.
The acting head of culture department at South Jakarta Culture and Tourism Agency, Yuyu Wahyudin, said the city administration decided to reorganize the event considering that it is an effective way to promote Batavia traditional foods and cultures.
According to Yuyu, the festival would increase the awareness and understanding of tourists visiting the city to typical foods of Batavia. “If tourists visit here, particularly South Jakarta, they’ll know [Batavia’s] typical foods,” he said.
The other three festivals, part of Gebyar Budaya Betawi, were Batik Festival, Pencak Silat (martial art) Festival, and Kerak Telor (egg dish) Festival, Yuyu mentioned.
Batik Festival had been held earlier on June 5, introducing Pal Batu Batik since the festival took place in Pal Batu, Menteng. “The festival is held to promote Pal Batu pattern which is not widely known,” he added.
