TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The 18th Asian Games torch relay will arrive in Bandung on August 11. The Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil planned to enliven the torch relay event with carnival organized by Bandung Administration.
“It's a rare event because the last one was held in 1960’s, so we want to make a carnival, but we need the permission of the central committee,” said Ridwan in Pendopo Bandung Friday, 13 July.
Ridwan will propose to relay the torch by walking instead of running so the convoy can escort once it has arrived in Pendopo Bandung. The 2018 Asian Games torch relay in Bandung is planned to be paraded towards Gedung Sate by drums band, cavalry, and the crowds, the mayor added.

Five former athletes from Bandung will relay the Asian Games torch, among others, former Bandung soccer club Persib player Djadjang Nurdjaman and badminton athlete Ricky Subagja.
“I will also bring the torch in the last relay and hand it over to Pak Iriawan in Gedung Sate. This carnival can make the atmosphere of the Asian Games become exciting where the people, especially in Bandung, will witness the event,” Ridwan said.
Head of Bandung Culture and Tourism Kenny Dewi Kaniasari said the 2018 Asian Games torch relay event in the city will be presented differently from other cities passed by it.
“Not only the athletes but some stakeholders of Bandung will also participate. And then, if the concept of walking can be realized, it will be visually more open; our creative team will design the idea of the event. Bandung is definitely different,” she said.
