Jokowi on Zohri`s Victory: Motivation for Gold at Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said the success of Lalu Muhammad Zohri as the world champion in the U-20 athletics can boost the spirit of the Indonesian athletes to achieve the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games.


“This is our provision to becoming more enthusiastic in reaching the additional gold medal in the 100-meter dash,” Jokowi said in Benteng Kuto Besak, Palembang, South Sumatra, Friday, July 13.

President Jokowi said he and the entire Indonesian people are proud of Zohri’s achievement. Zohri snatched the gold medal in the U-20 athletics world championship in the 100-meter-dash. As a gesture of appreciation, Jokowi plans to renovate Zohri's house in Lombok.


“This morning, I instructed the Minister of Public Works. It is an expression of pride of all Indonesians, I have instructed to renovate Zohri's house,” said Jokowi, adding that he also planned to invite Zohri to the presidential palace.

Zohri became the first Indonesian athlete to win the U-20 Athletic World Championship medal. He broke the junior national record with 10.18 seconds for the 100 meter-dash as well as his previous record in the Asian Games Invitation Tournament in February 2018 at 10.25 seconds.
