TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita explained the cause of the price hike of chicken eggs which reached Rp30,000 per kilogram. He said the rupiah depreciation affected the increase of chicken eggs prices in the market.

“The DOC (day old chicken) is also increased, the price of chicken feed as well,” said Enggartiasto at Economy Ministry today, July 11.

Enggartiasto mentioned the ministry called on traders of animal feed to discuss the matter. He said to have coordinated with Indonesian Poultry Association (Pinsar). He deployed the Director-General of Domestic Trade to solve the price hike issue.

The price of chicken eggs was increased to Rp24,000 per kilogram and gradually increased to Rp28,000 and now Rp30,000 per kilogram. “The chicken egg price is currently increased. It’s supplied from Gunung Agung, Central Java. The selling price is set by the retailer’s boss,” said a chicken eggs seller Akhyarrudin (27) at Mayestik Market on Tuesday, July 10.

In addition to many traders who lamented the drop in their sales due to the price hike, many buyers also made complaints regarding the lower number of chicken eggs and chili.
