TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Counter-terrorism Agency (BNPT) Chief Suhardi Alius stated the definition of radicalism regarding terrorism concept is radicalism in a negative perspective.
“BNPT got corrections while attending the United Nations meeting in New York to be careful in using radicalism term,” said Alius today at Attorney General office, Jakarta.
Alius said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres conveyed the correction. Antonio underlined the term of radicalism was used in global and it also has a positive perspective.
Following the suggestion, BNPT formed multiple indicators of radicalism in a negative perspective. Thus, Alius added, the public should be keen on using the word. “We have to be careful while using the word radicalism,” he said.
BNPT concluded that the definition of radicalism in light of terrorism was a notion that leads to intolerance, anti-NKRI (the Republic of Indonesia), anti-Pancasila (national ideology), and a notion containing takfiri (accusing other people of apostasy), Alius explained.
Alius mentioned he had delivered the terminology of radicalism at the forum of rectors days ago in a bid to socialize the matter. He then appealed to the mass media to be keen in using radicalism terms.
