Regional Head Elections Went Smoothly: Police

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The regional head elections in several provinces and districts in Indonesia went smoothly on Wednesday.


"The election process was running well and in conducive situation," the Public Relation Head of Riau Police Senior Commissioner Adjunct Sunarto said in Pekanbaru City.


Riau Police has deployed 5,251 personnel to maintain security in several voting places of Riau Provinces. The Indonesian Military Forces and Public Security were also assisting police to maintain security in 12,048 voting places.


The Head of Riau Police Inspector General Nandang hoped the process of regional head elections would run under peaceful condition.


Meanwhile, acting Bengkulu governor Rohidin Mersyah said the election process in Bengkulu Province was running smoothly.


He asked the candidate who achieved the largest votes to conduct modest celebration.


"Let us together maintain the stability in all regions. The winning party should not be overly in their celebration while the losing party must be able to accept its defeat," Mersyah added.


The Bengkulu Head Police Brigadier General Coki Manurung also asked the public to maintain peace and tolerance.


Bengkulu Police also appealed to all parties not to provoke each other to maintain stable situation.


Additionally, the regional head electionin South Kalimantan Province had also been conducted in smoothly.


The Head of South Kalimantan Police Brigadier General Rahmad Mulyana had reminded police personnel not to take side with a particular candidate. The police should give security service to all communities, Mulayana added.


The voting process of regional head in West Java Province also went smoothly and in conducive situation.


"The activity throughout West Java Province went safely and orderly. We have deployed several personnel in voting places along with TNI personnel to avoid criminal incident," the West Java Police Head Inspector General Budi Maryoto said.


Police appealed to the community to maintain the stability and security in West Java Province until the voting process was accomplished.
