TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairman of the Indonesian Retailers Association (Aprindo), Roy Nicholas Mandey, said online transactions this year grew by 3 percent from last year, which only saw 1.6 to 2 percent. Roy added, however, online transactions had yet to surpass offline transactions thus far.

“The growth is quite significant, but the impact of online transactions on offline transactions is still very small in Indonesia,” he said at the Trade Ministry on Friday, June 22.

He explained the growth of online transactions in the future could reach 40 to 50 percent. He cited online transactions in China, which now hit 18 percent, and in the United States with 11 to 12 percent.

“Indonesia reaches 3 percent. This is something to be monitored by offline [businesses],” he said.

He explained that nearly 95 percent of Aprindo members had combined their offline stores with their online ones.

“So consolidation comes from the offline market itself,” he said.
